SaaS spreads scientific software

Tools

Symyx (Nasdaq: SMMX) has unveiled a hosted informatics service that combines the company's software with data archiving capabilities in a secure data hosting and communications facility. The SaaS offering is intended make scientific software available to more R&D organizations by reducing requirements for IT infrastructure and resources, thereby lowering costs and accelerating deployment of electronic lab notebooks.

The company says the hosted ELN service allows chemists and biologists to manage and share experimental information and intellectual property.

A month ago, the company released version 6.3 of its enterprise ELN, adding parallel chemistry support for synthetic and medicinal chemistry to the existing functionality for biology, analytical and synthetic chemistry. The company also recently joined the nonprofit SAFE-BioPharma Association, which manages a standard for digital identity and signatures.
