Quintiles sheds CRO label
Apparently, it's becoming unfashionable to be labeled a CRO. Pack-leader Quintiles is now a "biopharmaceutical services company," says EVP Ron Wooten. Though the group will still do outsourced clinical trial work, Quintiles wanted a title that better captured its other activities, which include investing in drug development and marketing newly-approved drugs. And pharmacovigilance company Drug Safety Alliance has tried to shed the CRO label in favor of the more apt "drug safety company." It may be a local phenomenon, though; both identity-enhancing companies are based in Durham, NC. Article
