Publishers link data with text
Publishers are exploring methods to make supporting data and software more readily available with scholarly papers, reports Genomeweb. The idea is to help users finding and share research results in online literature.
The Public Library of Science, for example, plans to launch a section for its PLoS Computational Biology and PLoS One journals for authors to submit software along with papers to be published. Open source software will be required for the data submissions.
And Elsevier, which publishes FEBS Letters on behalf of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies, is adding structured digital abstracts to the publication. The structured digital abstracts extend traditional abstracts by including explanations of biological relationships, including pointers to database entries.
