EDC technology continues to diversify in functionality and back it up with integration. In separate statements issued recently, KIKA announced a system upgrade that automates a repetitive manual monitoring process, while MedNet touted a new system that uses the SaaS model for Web 2.0 standards-based e-clinical functionality.

Version 3.8 of KIKA's Veracity EDC system features an automated start to a query process, aiding clinical trial monitors in the repetitive task of pursuing out-of-spec data. The update also includes improvements to the data audit function.

The software maker has extended the system's manual monitoring query module. Researchers can define such criteria as out-of-range values and missing data, and the system then initiates the manual query process via automatic posting to the site.

The data audit trail feature helps trial monitors and data managers track and review the actions performed on clinical data. It allows global query capabilities on the entire study. It filters, sorts and displays such information as author, timestamp, type of actions, old value and new value, and hyperlink to relevant element.

Separately, a new system announced by MedNet Solutions, iMedNet, is a Web 2.0-based EDC/e-clinical platform slated for general availability in the third quarter. The iMedNet solution provides drag-and-drop set-up for forms, business logic, workflows and protocols via a reusable component library. The SaaS platform is standards-based and scalable, the company says; pricing is pay as you go. MedNet also makes the ENLIGHTEN e-clinical system.
