IU graduates first informatics PhD
Last month, James Costello received the first PhD in informatics from Indiana University's School of Informatics, which was founded in 2000. Costello worked on designing methods to connect disparate sources of Drosophila data to better inform researchers of functional relationships between genes. He has begun postdoctoral work at Boston University with James J. Collins, a Rhodes Scholar and MacArthur Foundation Genius Award winner. Costello says he will be using computational approaches to model gene interactions on synthetic and systems biology projects involving bacteria and mammalian systems. Article
