Extension is adding iPhone mobility to its clinical workflow solutions. The phone will be added to the company's Cisco IP device integration platform, which supports the server-based enterprise-class solution. The server aggregates data from clinical and business systems and serves it to users through IP devices and smartphones.

The iPhone application will provide doctors with notification of lab reports, as well as reports including pathology, cardiology and radiology. It will also aid physician/nurse exchanges. The app is being trialed at Stanford University Hospital, which wants to enhance workflows by streamlining alerts and notifications to nurses.

Separately, Elsevier has developed an iPhone app for First Consult, an online clinical information resource. First Consult provides information regarding patient evaluation, diagnosis, and clinical management. The app is available free from Apple and it works on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
