iPhone app tested as depression aid
The clinical trial of an iPhone application aims to prove its efficacy as treatment for depression. The Live Happy application is based on the book, The How of Happiness, by Sonja Lyubomirsky, professor of psychology at the University of California, Riverside.
The clinical trial began after clearing the Fairleigh Dickinson University's institutional review board, says an announcement. A network of therapists will oversee patients' daily use of the Live Happy app as an adjunct to treatment. Therapists will measure patient response to the addition of the app to their ongoing psychotherapy and medication.
Live Happy comprises a collection of positive psychology interventions, all of which have been tested in healthy individuals. The current trial tests the interventions for treating symptoms of depression in mobile application form.
