GlaxoSmithKline has deployed the DocXP document- and data-capture system for eventual use in clinical trials. The drugmaker will first use the system in a months-long project that involves processing multi-page questionnaires.

The system provides for document scanning and electronic filing via multiple interfaces, with data available immediately online. Data capture alternatives include intelligent and optical character recognition, in addition to barcode and optical mark recognition. The system processes documents that have data placed in predefined areas, as well as unstructured documents, according to U.K. manufacturer DRS.

The big pharma company is reducing its reliance on manual data entry, according to an announcement. It also hopes to improve accuracy and streamline data source verification and authentication.
