Group and meeting target digital pathology
An association has formed for digital pathologists. Goals of the nonprofit, called the Digital Pathology Association, include defining best practices and influencing standards and interfaces. Education and a conference are also on the list.
"Digital pathology is bound to be the key driver of personalization in medicine," says Ajit Singh, CEO at BioImagene and a sponsor of the new organization, in an announcement. "We welcome the formation of the DPA as the voice of the emerging digital pathology community."
Among drivers of digital imaging and digital pathology systems are the desire by some pathologists to expand use of the technologies within their labs, says Dirk Soenksen, CEO at Aperio Technologies, in an online article. Interest by laboratory information system vendors to integrate their software with digital image management software is another, he says.
These and other drivers will be discussed at the upcoming Pathology Visions 2009 conference, to be held September 13 to 15 in San Diego.
