Phase Forward's Clintrial has emerged victorious from a competitive product review by Budapest-based generics giant Gedeon Richter. "We look forward to garnering the benefits inherent in greater drug trial efficiencies," says György Németh, medical director at the drug maker, in an announcement.

In July, Richter and partner Teva Pharmaceutical received FDA approval on the emergency contraceptive Plan B One-Step. Richter had previously entered into a licensing agreement with KV Pharmaceutical for technologies and products in women's health.

Clintrial is a multilingual clinical data management system that aids in compliance with industry and government regulations. Phase Forward says the product is in use at some 200 life sciences companies.

The clinical trial and drug safety solution provider has been busy lately: It acquired the interactive voice and web response services business of Covance in August, following its April acquisition of Waban Software, a maker of software for automation and compliance of clinical data analysis and reporting.
