European clinic uses iPhone help desk app
A small medical clinic in Europe is using an iPhone app on the OTRS open-source service platform to manage patient interactions. The app allows help desk staff members using OTRS--an open-source platform for help desk and IT service management--to access their server from an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad in addition to the browser on a desktop or notebook computer.
The application targets small and mid-size businesses. It helps support staff manage the mobile communications devices that clinicians increasingly use in their work, in addition to being a service management and help desk tool.
The app augments OTRS::ITSM 2.0, launched by OTRS in April. The company says its non-sector specific help desk solutions are in use by 80,000 corporate groups worldwide, in 27 languages. The iPhone app will be available commercially at the end of this month for free download from the iTunes App Store.
