Informatics researchers find that doctors downloading music may inadvertently leak patient data. In the year-long study, investigators scoured millions of files and found that some file-sharing programs--including those used for music downloads--contain search wizards that may expose all the files from a computer to the public. Among those files can be downloaded patient medical and financial records. Two percent of the files investigated in Canada contained private health and financial information that could be accessed using a simple search tool. In the U.S., the figure was 5 percent. Article
