EMC
EMC in May expanded its cloud infrastructure portfolio with information storage and management offerings. Among them: EMC Atmos onLine, an Internet-delivered storage service built on EMC Atmos [1], a policy-based information management platform. Atmos onLine provides Cloud Optimized Storage (COS) capabilities for moving and managing information while delivering information protection and secure access.
The company has also announced its participation in the Daoli Trusted Infrastructure Project, a collaboration on trust and assurance issues for enterprises as they migrate their applications and data--and their customers' data--to computing environments outside of their local control. In February 2008, it agreed to acquire Pi Corp., a software developer and provider of personal information management services, which complements the company's cloud infrastructure.
EMC's cloud experience goes all the way back to 2000, when it began providing storage solutions for Loudcloud, an infrastructure services provider founded by Marc Andreessen and a team of former Netscape executives. Loudcloud sold its managed hosting business in 2002 to global services giant EDS.
